hey guys,

just an update for monday. terz and i might have a shoot on monday. for me, it starts from 5pm and ends about 9pm. and packrat is only free in the afternoon. i'm suggesting that we start promptly at 1pm, i scoot off and come back about 9ish. you guys ok?

Call of Duty

Just bought Call of Duty for Mac. First impressions: a more "realistic" (or perhaps I should say "realist") game.

- you can only carry two weapons at a time
- weapon accuracy increases the more you stay still
- option to fire from hip or raise gun to iron-sights
- option to crouch or prone (and you can't use your weapon if you're prone and moving - the "leopard crawl" effect, I suppose)
- you take our eye off the sniper scope when cycling the bolt

I'm running through the game at "greenhorn" level now (yeah, I know, chicken) just to get a feel for it.

It's been a while since I've chatted, and even longer since I've played a game as I just had my first child (a son!). Anyhow -- I had the day off and downloaded RTCW:ET this morning (see Yesterday's news for D/L mirrors-Mike) and wanted to tweak it to run full screen, full res on my 23" cinema display (it won't run widescreen by using the default settings). Here's how to do it, for those that are interested.

There are just 3 lines to change in the "etconfig.cfg" file that is located in here (global settings):

~/Library/Application Support/Wolfenstein ET/etmain/etconfig.cfg

and here (for individual profiles):

~/Library/Application Support/Wolfenstein ET/etmain/profiles//etconfig.cfg

The lines are as follows (red text is what you need to change):

seta r_customwidth "1920"
seta r_customheight "1200"
seta r_mode "-1" unsafe

This worked like a charm for me. If anyone is running at a lower resolution or a different LCD display, just put in the desired height and width. Hope this is helpful, as it seems that a lot of folks are picking up widescreen LCD displays lately. :)

CoD

Just installed Call of Duty. It's quite good...Worth checking out, certainly, and a definite successor to Medal of Honor. Plus it's on the Mac.

reporting yesterday's session

3. ludwig joined us (btw, he'll be out of town friday. getting married on thurs and honeymoon on fri)

ET help for Powerbooks with Rage 128.

"I just installed ET on my iMac (ATI Rage 128 Pro, OS 10.3.Cool, and when I launch it, i get an orange screen, and then a black screen. I can hear the intro and the music, but the screen remains black!
Can anyone help me?

I finally succeeded in launching the game!
But I had to switch into windowed mode(cmd-h) in order to see something on the screen then choose the resolution I wanted (640x480 instead of 1024x768) and then go into full screen and it worked."

It looks quite a bit like Rogue Spear and uses Ironsights instead of the standard crosshairs. Also with the addition of both smoke grenades and Flashbangs, I think that this has quite a bit of potential...also, it's free.
