This Thursday marks the return of one of the inner circle and for the first time in over a year, the Widowmakers will be fragging again.

OK, KLH Threatmeter is still on the 2.1.3 version, so no change there.

But the following have been updated:

1. Duckiebank (version 2.41a) - please add it to your addons list so that you have access to what goodies there are in the bank. Otherwise, plenty of good stuff will get AH'd before anyone requests for them.

2. Speaking of AHes, Auctioneer (version 4.0.5) is out. Download for pricing help on your phat loot on AH.

This next addon is highly recommended by the players I know who use them. Instead of 4 action bars max on your screen, you get them all including the shortcut keys needed to access them (Shift-, Alt-, Ctrl-, etc).

A. Fubar (version 3.0)

OK, tried Fubar but it doesn't seem to be working the way the players described. Let me check on it and get back to you guys.

With Patch 2.2 out, some of your older addons may not work any more (or some, like Halcyone, have a kaya cake thing going in the middle of her screen that refuses to go away). So here are the latest versions of the addons you might find useful:

Guild Policies and Schedule

Hey all,

OK, let's get this guild going for real.

Guild policies:

1. Leave no man behind. On Thursdays, we will prioritise the levelling of every one to Level 70. Between 6 pm to 10 pm, contact any of the high level characters to get your difficult-to-solo quests completed. Or if you just want to meet at that time to run instances.

2. Have fun. Please do. If any of you are feeling left out, let one of the officers know. Usually Cuthalion or Tercul will be online.

3. No pressure. We're here to have fun, and not farm high-level/ end-game instances. We'll do that when we can, but before that, everyone gets to Level 70. This guild will move as quickly as its slowest member.

4. Looting. Please adhere to standard loot rules in instances. Otherwise, if there's something that is BOE and a blue and above, guildbank gets it and we will decide who in the guild (who've requested for the item) gets it first. For new players, standard loot rules are as follows:

- Greed all BOE (Binds on Equip) Greens. You can AH it yourself for money (mounts cost a heck of a lot of gold).
- Pass all BOP (Binds on Pick Up) items (Greens, Blues, Purples - haha). We'll distribute according to class, followed by level. If no one wants, then we'll roll for it - to sell to vendor or to DE it (in which case, the enchanter in the group will pick it up).
- Pass on all recipes, formulas, plans. Group leader will Need them and then transfer to Guildbank also after the run. You can request the items from the bank.

5. Professions. Please do not charge guildies for items made or enchanted. Let's be nice here and help everyone. At most, ask them to AH the mats if you do not have the mats. No tips expected. Or should be.

Guild bank is Eahlferend. Request policy is:

1. Item will be placed on duckiebank (please download the addon, if you haven't already).

~~2. For 48 hours it will be in the bank, after which it will be AH'ed and the money sent to the guildie who submitted it.~~ Decided that this was a tad too complicated... you guys can sell your own stuff. Guild bank will accept only BOE blues and up. If there are greens, it will be those picked up by Cuthalion/ Alethra/ Tercul; makes the money side of things easier. Same rules. Will be up for 48 hours (or as soon as I'm online to update the guild bank) and then AHed. Check duckiebank often.

3. You may request for the item in advance for your level, but if there's someone else in the same class who have requested for the item and gets to the level before you, it will go to him/her.

In any case, if people are having trouble questing or levelling, here's a guide (but feel free to contact one of the officers to help you if you really can't solo):

Got this off Osiris' rogue guide. This man is quite the leet rogue but I thought that some of this might be useful for you guys.

LEVELING STRATEGIES

Green is good. Try to hold off from going into new zones until the mobs are green to you. Killing mobs and doing quests 3-4 levels below you is ideal. The quests will be a joke and you will chew through the mobs with ease. It’s very easy to destroy your XP per hour by going after mobs your level or higher. You get the same XP from a level 61 quest as you do at 58 and 66. Just don’t let them turn grey.

I never used to be a big fan of quests. I have changed my mind on this since The Burning Crusade. There are so many good resources out there for finding info on quests. Wowhead.com is the best. It will tell you where to go and what to do. The important thing is that you do the quests quickly. Don’t spend an hour looking for one stupid quest objective. Look it up and get it done. Your XP per hour will be amazing.

Do all of the quests in your zone except the group ones and knock all of your group quests out with others at the same time.

Try to keep a pace of no less than 5 quests completed per hour.

Why Am I Leveling So Slowly?

It's not a race. I'm not here to tell you that you need to go 1-70 in 8 days played. But if you're looking to level at a reasonable pace, here are some tips:

Avoid excuses not to level. I've seen a lot of people do anything that they can to keep from leveling. I've seen people spend days trying to gather the mats to craft one item at level 20. You want to go through a bit of trouble to complete a difficult quest because you really want the reward? Fine. Spend an hour. Don't let crafting get in your way of leveling when that item will be replaced with an easy to obtain quest reward 3 levels later. And please stop asking for a high level to run you through instances. There's nothing in WC that will make your grind so much easier that it's worth spamming channels for an hour straight. Sometimes I will ask guildmates to run me through instances that I know they can solo demolish an instance in 30 minutes. If I have 4 quests I can knock out in a short period of time, fine, but for the most part I don't run instances at all when leveling.

Set a goal. It's Thursday night, you have all of your crap done at home and you now have 6 hours of game time before you need to go to bed. Where do you expect to be by the end of the night? Set realistic goals. To expect to hit levels 14, 15 and 16 is perfectly reasonable. To expect to do 67, 68 and 69 in six hours is not. Try longer term goals. “I plan to be at level 44 by the end of the weekend”.

Not a must, but good for everything we need to do:

KTM Threatmeter - Useful in a group/raid. Makes sure you don't overtake the tank in aggro either through damage or healing done.

Titan Panel - Shows everything you have on hand: money, ammo, durability and repair costs, etc.

Duckiebank - Grants access to what Eahlferend has in the bank.

Healbot - For the pallies, priests and other healzorzz in the game.

These downloads can be taken off www.curse.com. There are others, but not needed at the moment.

Schedule

Not set in stone, mind you, but here it is:

Monday to Wednesday - Group quests/ power levelling (by which I don't mean having a Level 70 babysit you, but refer to the guides). Also try to pair up with other guildies - they can learn their skills and so can you.

Thursday - Assistance Night. Just ask, we'll come.

Friday to Saturday - Instance runs. Mostly farming now. Leave a comment on the webpage to vote for which one we'd go for. If there're more than one, then we'll see who's left to power level (the twink way) you guys.

Sunday - Level 70 instances for Outland rep. Or more Azeroth instance runs if we can't find us a tank.

Use this page to find out who's around your level (the sidebars update automatically) and then if they're on, you guys can probably level together.

If anyone can figure out how to move the banners to a sidebar (and make the side bar wide enough to accommodate them) so that we don't lose sight of the first post on this page, that'd be great ... anyone with better skillz than me at layout?

If this eventually comes out on PC, I highly recommend it.

Some of the things I liked about it:

- Realistic use of cover: this is one of the few shooters I've seen that allows, actively encourages you, and indeed requires you to take cover (the other would be GRAW). The mechanism for taking cover and using cover to shoot is simple and intuitive, with one button doing all the work. Depending on the situation, that one button activates a variety of ways of taking and exiting cover, so there's plenty of variety: you can back out cover, stand up from it, exit by climbing over the front of it, jump and roll to the side, or do a fancy stand and spin-around to an adjoining cover. Very easy, very well-executed.

- Realistic shooting: this game saw me waste ammo shooting blindly at half-glimpsed vague shapes of enemies, missing most targets at long range, hitting only when I took several seconds to acquire targets and aim properly ... in other words, very realistic. There's no gun wobble, which makes it slightly arcade-ish, but the other things make up for this. Overall, it was very difficulty to spot and shoot enemies in the grim, grimy, and dark environments of this game.

Things I didn't like so much:

- I still don't like playing shooters on a console. Keyboard and mouse is so much more intuitive than joystick controllers.

Other than that, a great game, and a great shooter

I'm trying to write up our guild manifesto for The Weekend Widowmakers @ dragonblight. Can anyone suggest certain core values that we want in our guild? I figured that we should try to point our little guild in a certain direction so that we can work toward a larger goal.

I was thinking, with our penchant for fragging and teamwork:

Primary goal: Working together to level our toons.
Secondary Goal: Grouping up to do Battlegrounds. (I think with our strategic minds working together, we should be able to win some victories for the alliance on our server

These should be our short term goals till we get WAY more people recruited.

Speaking of which, any comments on recruitment policies? I don't want any old Tom, Dick or Varamithras joining us.

Figured that people joining our guild would have to have adventured with any of the founding members and must also have their hearty recommendation.

Hey guys,

Just came back from French Embassy, we got the Singapore permit to get the work permit in Paris! Confusing huh? And btw, we are leaving 19 March! Guy at the embassy said that if we don't leave in March to apply for the work permit in Paris, the application will become void and we will have to re-apply (5 month process). Likely we will have to pack up about 90%, go over there in March and come back for about 2weeks to a month in June-ish to get remaining 10% to bring over to Paris.

great game! super frag fest. and thanks for Mr PR for new maps! boko and icarus l337 rifle skills are super man. must remember that i cannot take you guys headon, you guys are r0xx0rs! learnt a good lesson at the unbreakable glass map. terz, you missed the map with breakable glass, what a laugh when we discovered that we could shoot through the glass! but we ended early at 1130pm, very tired. worked hard last night. icarus and i thinking of REAL fps at orchid cc with paintball. i save up enough cash then we go?

OK...Overall a great fragfest. Had tons of fun. Some thoughts.

Everyone's improved.

FW! is a force to be reckoned with PvP. In fact, I'm quite wary of taking him on mano-e-mano. It's testament to his BAR skills which are extraordinary. 70% kill rate vs my tommy gun.

Dusty PSpringfield has improved tremendously and is now racking up the SMG kills as well as the pesky snipe kills.

Icarus is dangerous as always with his l337 MG skillz and was also greatly scary with his gewehr. Impressive.

Overall, I think there's been a marked improvement skill wise with the group since I last played you guys. (And it's not the rust talking...)

Looking forward to the next game.

1. Packrat is back on 23th, so if he can get some rest and do a 24th morning, that week isn't wasted.

Great game guys. It's great to have fw! back: we've missed you dearly in our fragging sessions! 3-man behind-enemy-lines is a great training game: stalking and marksmanship for the rifle-armed hunters, escape and evasion for the allied soldier. We'll definitely have to do this next week, and hopefully with berliner and gandalf.

(btw, I forgot to take screenshots: maybe fw! or pshrike can post some from the game?)

Battlefield 2 has gotten mixed reactions from our little clan so far. Main complaint is the feedback from shots is not as accurate as with COD etc. I think that it takes getting used to as with all new games.

Here's my breakdown of the game. So far, from my observations on playing with my classes, I think that the game has potential for clan training more so than many other games out there. It forces people to take on roles and teamwork is crucial to holding and taking key points and defending areas. Vehicles are key as well and need to be used to get from point A to point D in the fastest time possible. (Helicopters, once we get the hang of them, will be key to the movement of troops.) As can be seen by the size of the maps, it will be pretty much a large multiplayer game that is best played with 10-12 players. (If we can get suitable competition, we can finally play as a full clan instead of against each other.)

I personally fit 2 roles very nicely. 1. Assault (d'uh) and 2. Engineer. I can also play backup sniper but then again, I'm twitchy. I can fly a decent chopper (50% survival rate).

Boko's pretty much shown from all other games that he is a very competent sniper and BF2 has enough hiding spots to ensure that he has his choice of targets.

Aside from that, Battle for Middle Earth was also tres entertaining but matches tend to be VERY long. Fun though.

Well, that's it for now. 'Tis late and I've got a staff meeting tomorrow.

tried out the Razer v1.6 that I bought. V v v sensitive: I suspect it's not just the sensitivity settings but the resolution of 1600dpi: even with the sensitivity dialled down, the mouse tends to hover/drift if I'm careless. Definitely takes getting used to.

Taking the cue from Ickysaurus:

Very nice round of fragging this time around guys. Few points warranting thought on my part:

We're playing better as a team. (At least in 2 man teams.) We're communicating and we're trusting our compatriots more. Also better co-ordination when working on CTF. Pshrike tagged me quite a few times while I was running across the map with the big@$$ flag on my head and that helped us score a few crucial points. When team members pick up the flag, usually it's good when there's a backup in case the flag bearer gets sniped.
A&D. We're figuring out how to hold choke (flag) points as well as attacking flag points. Co-ordination was key to some flags and 2 man teams taking each flag was integral for the W. in Sicily. Also helped when we found alternate routes into the compounds instead of lemming-like assaults through the exact same choke points.
Good that Berliner's found a good backup weapon that is a nice cross between the sniper rifle and an SMG. (No, not the FG42...) Now, if only it came in German, American and Russian equivalents. :)
Ickysaurus is HOT with the flamethrower and Pshrike's WARMING up to it. (Groan) But the flamer's been weapon of choice for the two. I see a niche for both players. (Hehe...2 flamers on a clan team...Schweet...)
We still need to work on tank takedowns. We're not going to have 3 man teams all the time (in fact, pretty rarely at that) and we'll need to figure out how to take down tanks in 2 man teams. Will be pretty tricky but I trust that we'll rise to the occasion.

BTW: I just realised that I can't make it for next Saturday. Can we shift the game back to Friday just for this week?

As usual, great game guys. I think we were all tired - 7 hours of fragging must be a record for us. Today was denifitely the day of the SMGs.

Some random thoughts:

- the Attack and Defence game is good: the flags act as foci for the action, ensuring that there's a high level of fragging. Even in TDM, there can be dull games if everyone goes to ground and camps, whereas objective-based games force a concentration of action.

- communication and co-ordination has improved: the times we didn't communicate and co-ordinate well were because we couldn't be bothered to! =) Let's face it, sometimes it's fun to go lone-wolf, and it takes an effort to co-ordinate your actions with your team-mates. If anything, I think we're getting used to each others' styles/MOs, so we're building co-ordination that way. Bengaliner's spotting in the last game was incredibly useful, enabling me and Pshrike to be ready to repel attacks.

My review of favoured weapons:
- MG34: the Shredder. One good burst does it. It's primary weakness is the limited arc of fire after setting up, so location is everything with this. I find the iron sight slightly irritating: there's a piece of metal that sticks up which blocks your field of view, making it possible for something to enter near the centre of your arc of fire and go un-noticed, especially at long-range. Also has interesting morale/psychological effects: when first hit by an MG34, players tend to go to ground or run, rather than shoot back
- .30 cal: slower rate of fire than the MG34. This limits its first-burst kill-probability (though I get the impression the damage per bullet might be higher). The sights are slightly better than the MG34's but still take up too much of your field of vision
- Flamethrowers: the gift that keeps on giving. One good hit is enough: the burning does damage even after you take the finger off the trigger. Dangerous in a tight spot - the only weapon that can bounce back at you
- FG42: Jack of all trades. Unfortunately, master of none - you're likely to be out-sniped by a sniper, out-suppressed by an MG, and an SMG would run circles round you - but, you're better prepared than any of them.
- MP44. Steady enough for long range shooting, high enough rate of fire for close-in combat. Also, the iron-sights are the easiest to use of all MGs (possibly all weapons), allowing clean aiming
- BAR: very steady platform for long-range shooting, and the low rate of fire means its possible to do long range single shots like a rifle, but is consequently disadvantaged at close-range versus an SMG
- Bren: like the BAR ... but better. The only issue I have is the vertical magazine, which blocks a large chunk of your vision, and decreased situational awareness, and the ironsights are not as easy to aim through as with other MGs

In summary, I am definitely a fan of the larger caliber, heavy weapons. The only SMG I really like is the PPSh: if I have to use a Thompson, I'd rather be using an MP44 - but I'll leave it to Packrat to wax lyrical about the joys of the tommy gun. = )

OK...Got my playlist up and a new software mp3 player (minimal CPU usage) for this Saturday's send off game.
